©RW–2012– screenshot of project 2 Project 2A - Photogallery - These images are based on morning walks in Stephens Green. I liked the play of shadows on the ground and the contrast with the brightly coloured flower borders which are regimented in the Victorian park tradition.
Originally this was a green in the sense of a large expanse of grass with a tree shaded boulevard around the perimeter. Malton depictes it like this in the 1790's with deer acting as "lawnmowers" Farmers were also permitted to bring their sheep in to graze. This was the usual way to keep large lawns trimmed in the eighteenth century. The plain expanse of grass and the tree lined perimeter was more in keeping with the austere esthetic of the Georgian square.
